Main advantages of private health insurance
1. Shorter waiting times, better care
Private patients are prioritized when booking appointments with specialists - and you get access to senior consultants and private hospital rooms.
2. Low contributions for high earners
If you’re young and healthy, private insurance can be significantly cheaper than public. Your contributions are based on age and health – not income.
3. Worldwide coverage, no compromise
Private health insurance protects you globally, just like at home. You choose the plan that fits your lifestyle – from basic to premium.

What to consider before going private
Planning to start a family?
In private insurance, family members aren’t covered for free like in the public system. If you're the only one earning, the total premium can increase — since each person needs their own policy. But if both partners work, private insurance often remains a cost-effective and high-quality option.
Thinking about retirement?
Once you retire, certain surcharges end — like the 10% statutory fee and income protection premiums. Still, private insurance can be more expensive than public in retirement. We’ll help you weigh the pros and cons for your long-term plans.
When private health insurance makes the most sense
If you’re young
The younger you are, the lower your private insurance premium. Unlike public insurance, your income doesn’t affect what you pay.
If you’re in good health
The healthier you are, the better your premium. Pre-existing conditions may lead to a surcharge or even rejection by the insurer.
If both partners work
In private insurance, each person needs their own plan. If you're the only earner, that can get expensive. But when both partners have income, it’s often a great fit.

No, if you apply for private health insurance you will not automatically receive your pension insurance number. In this case you must contact your HR department who will take care of the application for you.
Yes. A few weeks after the insurance company confirmed your membership, you will receive your health insurance card which you can show at any doctors appointment.
As soon as your membership is confirmed, you're immediately eligible to see a physician without any delay. Just find a local doctor who communicates in the language you're most comfortable with and schedule your visit either by phone or online. Always bring your health card to the doctor as you will be asked for it. This is the only item you'll need to provide.
Yes, your wife and children can be co-insured. In this case every family member will receive an individual calculation. Newborns are covered for free for the first 12 months.
If you are employed, the whole contribution will be deducted from your bank account. The employers contribution will be added via your pay slip.
Yes, as it does with public health insurance as well. The increase will never be individual from spendings that the insurance company has through you or because you are getting older but comes from medical inflation for example. Historic data shows an expected increase per year of 2-3%. Public health insurance has an estimated increase of 4% over the last 10 years.
Usually, you have the right to switch back to public health insurance. Under certain circumstances we can check if it is possible to stay with private. Please contact us via in this case. We will then check your situation individually.
In this case you have a special termination right. Please sent us a deregistration certificate so that we can take care of your termination.
