What is covered?
Water damage:
A burst pipe while you are asleep destroys your basement. Everything that is destroyed by the water is insured.
Vandalsim and robbery:
Someone breaks in and steals or damages your property, both the destroyed and stolen items are insured.
Fire damage:
Both fire and the resulting smoke can destroy your valuables. With household contents insurance, you are insured against both.
Bicycle theft:
Someone steals your bike from your house or at the train station? As long as it is locked, you are covered.
What is not covered?
Damage caused by your pets:
Damage caused by your pets is not insured
Damage to rented furniture:
If you live in a rented apartment, you may also have rented furniture. This is not covered by household contents-, but by your personal liability insurance.
Pipes under the floor or in the wall:
Damage caused by burst pipes under the floor or in the walls is not covered, as this is covered by your landlord's buildings insurance.
Blown Fuse:
Electronics damaged by blown fuses are not covered, only if caused by a lightning strike.

Do you have to move because the insured flat has become permanently uninhabitable due to an insured event, the insurance will reimburse the moving costs incurred within your area without limit.

Household contents insurance covers the replacement value
The damage to a pipe as described would be covered by the building insurance of the landlord. If there is damage to your household goods in this context, for example your sofa, this will be covered by the household insurance.
If the mains water damages the floor of the rented apartment or drops down to the neighbor the building insurance and your personal liability insurance will be affected.
The insurance is valid for 1 year, after the first year it is automatically renewed but can then be canceled on a daily basis if you leave Germany within the first year, you have a special right of termination. Overpaid premiums will be refunded in both cases.
Bicycles and the bicycle trailers
must be secured with a separate bicycle lock against theft when you park them.
Safety devices that are permanently connected to the bicycle (so-called "frame locks") are not considered as separate locks.
Special obligation in case of theft
You must obtain and retain proof of purchase, as well as other documents relating to the manufacturer, the brand and the frame number of the insured bicycle or trailer. Otherwise, the total compensation is limited to a maximum of EUR 150.
It is also good to have pictures of you and your bicycle.
It depends if the glass just has some scratches or similar damages, in this case it is covered by PLI. If the glass is broken it’s covered through the optional glass breakage insurance. Household contents insurance does not cover glass breakage.
