How much coverage do I need?
To make sure you're fully protected, your coverage amount should reflect the total replacement value of all items in your home.
✅ Option 1. Quick Rule of Thumb:
Cover €650 per m² of living space → This ensures you’re protected and includes waiver of underinsurance.
Example:
- 50 m² apartment → €32,500 coverage
- 100 m² house → €65,000 coverage
✅ Option 2. Detailed Calculation
Add up the value of your belongings:
- Furniture & Home Furnishings (sofas, wardrobes, beds)
- Electronics (TVs, laptops, kitchen appliances, smartphones)
- Clothing, Shoes & Accessories
- Sports Equipment & Bicycles
- Valuables (jewellery, artwork, antiques)
⚠️
Why underinsurance is risky
Underinsurance happens when your coverage amount is lower than the actual value of your household items. If your coverage is too low, your insurer may only pay part of a claim.
Example:
If your belongings are worth €80,000 but you're insured for only €40,000, the insurer might only cover 50% of any damage — leaving you with high out-of-pocket costs.
✅ Tips to stay fully covered:
- Use the €650 per m² rule as a safe minimum
- Update your coverage when buying expensive items
